Failed mushroom hunt?
    #3257195 - 10/20/04 04:55 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

As far as I can tell, my recent trip to a cow pasture has yielded only non-psychoactive mushrooms.
Figured I'd post pictures of our finds here, in case anyone (hopefully?) could prove me wrong:

You're right, they are non-active.

A tip for your future hunts:

Keep different species separate from each other. It makes it easier to identify them, and it reduces the possibility that you might accidentally mix in a poisonous one with the ones you're going to eat.

Happy mushrooming!

Although not active, it looks like you have some nice mushrooms (or they probably looked nice before being picked)

:sun: Go to Safeway or some other market and grab a couple packes of lunch bags.  Yes...lunch bags!

:sun: Carry something to write with when you go shroom hunting.

:sun: Pretend you're in Biology class and write down where you found them, what was growing nearby, conditions (mossy, alder chips, fir mulch forest).

:sun: When you get home, take a specimen from the bag, break off the stem, and sit it gill side DOWN and stick an empty jar or small bowl over it for the night.

:sun: Write down your results on the same bag.  (purplish spore print, white spores, brown, etc)

:sun: Make a note whether or not the gills are attached or not, if the cap is slimy or dry and that sort of info.

:sun: It helps to be organized until you can recognize a species of mushroom.

At least that's what has helped me.

Getting the BAGS is the biggest thing!  Then you'll have them to stash all those shrooms you'll soon be finding!

Good luck!

Good advice freedomseeker, I use brown lunchbags too! I also carry a backpack, notepad+pencil and a camera with me if possible.
