Okay, I am obviously not a very experienced culinary artist... When you "simmer," do you raise the water to a boil before adding in grains, then turn to lowest heat till popped kernels? Or, do you just add grain and turn on low heat untill you see popped kernels? Thanks

you should add the grain then raise the heat so it is very slightly bubbling

i disagree, to simmer you first boil the water, then add grains. turn down the heat until the rye is just simmering, slightly boiling.

okay... and via your simmering method, how long does it usually take to simmer after grain is added and temperature set to low? thanks

I soak my grain in my PC and then pour water out and fill it up about 3 times after a 24 hour soak and then fill it up again (water should be somewhat clearer) then throw on the stove on high. I turn it down to medium once it starts bubbling a little if I remember but usually I forget and it stays on high. Cook until they start to pop open. Strain (no rinse), let water steam off, load into jars, PC and so on..
