quick drying question
    #3252312 - 10/19/04 04:22 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

After harvesting is it ok to leave them on a paper towel for a day or so until a desicant can be used, or will they rot? I am pretty sure that I have heard leaving them uncovered and allowing them to be exposed to air (no fan) is even a method of drying, but I just want to be sure.

My dog usually puts his on a paper towel with a fan blowing on them for at least 24 hours. He then puts them in a desicant chamber to get them cracker dry.

Read the Faq's.

You have your pc on when there drying? Get some experience before you make stupid posts. Of course you can dry in an oven at low temps but laid on a rack in a warm dry room they should be dry in 1-2 days then throw them in a box with some desiccant.

I knew people would respond w/ the saying "use a fan." I mean I dont have a fan so can I leave them out in the open (without using a fan) for a day or so until I get a desiccant? thanks

>whats a desiccant chamber?

Is is a container(for instance a Tupperware with a tight seal) where there is some desiccant at the bottom, and the mushrooms sitting on a mesh or paper on the desiccant in order to dry.

As has been said, pre-dry the mushrooms with a fan, then get them cracker dry using desiccant.

ARGGGG... can some please answer my question as stated before:

I knew people would respond w/ the saying "use a fan." I mean I dont have a fan so can I leave them out in the open (without using a fan) for a day or so until I get a desiccant? Or will it rot that way?

THANK YOU!

For my first batch I just placed each mushroom in a paper towel, then folded the paper towel over, then pinned them to the wall by the window. It took about 2 days to dry this way. So no you dont have to have a fan, but it does the job better.
