A question of seeing differences???
    #3252187 - 10/19/04 05:47 PM (13 years, 5 days ago)

Since Liberty Caps have such distinctly shaped caps and types of stem than how would it be hard to "visually" tell them apart from other forms?

I know of the other things that are neccessary to tell but I was just wondering about visually, just by looking and seeing them?

They are small, and grow in only certain areas.

They will grow in pastureland, around dung (not in it) and grow the height of the grass surrounding them.

I mean the cap should give them away. It looks like a witches hat.

But, for the untrained eye, its hard to tell apart them from a Panaelous.

I mostly find Mycenas growing from wood, I have a bunch of pics. An easy way to tell tham apart is the gill color (white). They also drop white spores. Many are of unknown edibility.
