typically, the insecurity of IE comes from its useage - you can have it installed, just dont use it.

Also, some components of IE are tied in with key parts of the Windows OS, like when you double click on 'My Computer', it's technically running the IE program (no, this does not present a security risk.)

So if you were to remove IE, you'd fuck your computer up.

true - plus, I dont think you can actually remove IE - windows isnt very customizable like that.
