Maitake again..
    #3251917 - 10/19/04 04:29 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Found this 20 pounder and
about 6 smaller 5 lb'ers....
Only took the 20 and a smaller
5.... I read up on these and they
are supposed to be as good as if not
better than shitake for boosting the
immune system... here are a few pictures.

Nofindum....

Nice specimen. I've only tried them once, and I didn't care for the flavor. Of course, that's only my opinion, and lots of people like them.

Happy mushrooming!

"lot's of leftover core material".. Hope
I like the taste TM.. All in all it was
very healthy not buggy or rotted....

I don't know?? either that
or some type of jelly fungus.
We need to see the pores/tubes
on the undersurface.. They
resemble maitake. But without further
description it's hard to tell..Nofindum..

The lamellae on the second picture look like the ones from oysters.
Also the acentric stem points to oysters.
On what substrate they are growing ?
I mean what kind of bark is that they are growing on ?

Oysters have gills. I don't see gills on your mushrooms Borealis.

It is kind of hard to see the structure but it looks like gills to me.

Your right. They do have gills. I just enlarged the photo and now I can see them. It appeared to me at first that they had pores instead of gills which is the case with maitake.
