Your ethnobotanical garden?
    #3251782 - 10/19/04 01:48 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

I do not yet have any ethnobotanicals. The only plant I have is an aloe vera.

I've grown mush and had a lot of fun with it and I enjoy my aloe vera. I am thinking about growing some more plants. My list of possibles includes:

datura
morning glory/HBW
salvia
cacti
kava

What's in your ethnobotanical gardens?

4 San Pedro cacti
5 Nicotina tobaccum
5 gigantic morning glory vines
1 Airocarpus fissuratus
4-5 Leonotis nepetifolia
And some Petunias, if you want to count those.

I've also got a bunch of seeds I plan to plant in the spring.

I've got loads of san pedro and other cacti. Those are good to grow. Kava is tropical so unless you live in the tropics I'd forget it. Morning glories are a possibility but woodrose never seem to set seed unless you are in hawaii or equivilent. Datura is easy to grow but is not a good entheogen. I'd suggest hiemia, calea, wild dagga, caapi, psychotria viridis and of course cacti.

Very nice garden, Aelph. I have most of those you mentioned. I probably have as many pachnois but most are smaller. I see you have hoodia gordonii. Not too many are growing that. How old are yours, could you tell us a little about them? The sun opener is heimia, I have that one too. What do you mean by "old cuttings"?

My hoodia were started from seed this spring and are 3" high already. They look really nice. I've found them easy to grow so far. I use a sandy/high aeration cactus mix with them with natural lime in the mix. I water them frequently and have put the fertilizer to them. In thier natural environment, they are slow growing. In the summer I had them outside with 5-6 hours of direct sun, now I have them under flouros 24/7 and they seem to really like it.

By the term "old cuttings", those are cuttings that have been growing for more than 4 months. They are basically small plants now.

I'll have to take some pics and post them here of the stuff I have.

Hey led,

how do the Rivea corymbosa seeds compare to morning glory seeds for LSA content in terms of anecdotal evidence (or figures if you've got 'em)?

And Aelph,

You have a serious collection. Are you willing to sell/give any of those to help us (ME that is!) start our own collections?

This thread is proof we need an Entheogenic Plant Adoption thread!!!

I have no experience with ingesting Rivea or HBWR seeds...

Yeah walking onions are great, no digging

impeachme2 do you use the lemon balm for anything intoxicant related? I dont, but I've heard of people using it in smoke mixes inc. changa because it is apparently a mild metabolic enzyme inhibitor (I forget which CYPs it effects) and also anxiolytic enough to influence changa trips.

Among those I forgot were Heimia salicifolia and H. myrtifolia, I just sent some cured foliage to a mate for easing benzo withdrawls.

You should post pictures to verify that it is actually P. virdis as many P. alba are sold as P. virdis.

Looks like a P. virdis to me.

Felix is the true authority on this though.

Looks more lika alba to me (elliptic shape).

It will become more clear as it grows, but I put my money on alba.

Which is still a great plant IMO.
Viridis is more for collections sake because it grows very slow.

Thanks Dan!

I'm used to my P. alba that has such a pointed tip, these seemed to have the more curvy features I think of P. virdis having, but again you know your stuff in that department hands down

My P. alba:

EDIT: After comparing a bit more, I agree with FH.

Felix was telling me last night that P. virdis is even rare for ayahuasqueros down in S. America to grow.

They tend to be slow and not as vivacious as P. alba or as far as I am aware.

Do you think people would be selling P. alba for P. viridis?

Happens VERY VERY frequently.

Actually I've seen it happen almost 99% of the time.

There was one user in AUS that looked like he had P. virdis, but aside from him and Felixhigh I havent seen much posted recently.

P. alba is just so much more vigorous.

Mine survived, outdoors, a FEW good solid freezes.

Also, Felix was saying that there alkaloids aren't much different so virdis is kept more as a "vintage" species.

It's not a money issue but a time issue!
Yours is looking like an alba IMHO....Looking great BTW...
The real id is the spurs on the back of the leaf, apparently??
I have some from seed from stoney, so hoping they're gonna make it! Only another 10mths before I expect flowers....

Presently I only have papaver somniferums.  I planted a few indoors as a test, and they germinated a few days ago.  Big guerilla grow outdoors, can't wait to take pictures of it, it will be beautiful when it blooms!

I have a lone cannabis seed that will probably be planted as well.  Perhaps I'll order more?  They don't need planting for over a month so we'll see.

I would really like to grow some salvia, I will have to look into it later.  I wanna be that guy who still has access to it after it (someday) gets banned :P

*edit*  I have no idea how I got on such an old thread.  I hate pulling old stuff back up :/
