I was about to birth an EQ strain when I noticed the myc was turning brown, Well light tan or beige. I was reading that other post where sam was saying it is drying out myc. Is this a contam should I chuck it out?? Its still in the jar.

drying out usually shows in blue, as in bruising. But I had a small spot that had water droplet then "die" on one of my cakes that turned yellow after few days... I don't think turning brown is normal, though.. post a pic. Others can answer it better.

I really don't think that's normal either.
The only yellow I've had on my myc is from mycelium piss. I've had off-white mycelium before that I thought was cobweb until closer inspection.. brown sounds strange though. If you are set on fruiting it, try fruiting it in another terrarium or something else away from your normal looking cakes. Chances are it's a contam, but if you have the extra chamber it's worth a check IMO
I also recently had a beige looking contam, which is why I believe it's a contam. Mine was easy to tell it was a contam since it took up half the cake in a day though.

Did it turn that way or has it been like that? It looks like weak myc. to me not a contam from you pic. I think it will be fine.

I have similar discoloration on some birthed cakes that I have, I definitely think it's some kind of contam cuz they aren't fruiting for piss.

I'm still skeptical. Now that I've seen the picture I think it might be a contam.
If you have an extra bin, go ahead and birth it in that. If not, then just watch it VERY closely in your other bin to make sure it's not going to turn into a full blown contamination.
My two cents, hope it helps. - Silven

Yeah I would better safe than sorry. It looks like weak myc. to me though. I guess since it's been in the fridge you cold shocked it then? If you hadn't I would just incubate for a few more days to see if it changes any.

Looks good to me but cant hurt in a different bin. Just make sure you give the bottles lots of fresh air.
