I see you're in the East Bay. So am I - El Cerrito. I'm new to hunting, although I have Paul Stamets' book. I've narrowed my search to cyanescens, since that seems to be the most likely psilocybe to find in our area. Any suggestions on where to look? Am I better off looking in the regional parks (Tilden, Wildcat Canyon, Briones, etc.) or should I be looking in gardens, urban parks, etc. - cultivated areas with lots of wood chips.
Any advice for an East Bay newbie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ate October is early in my experience for Amanita Muscaria, but there they were, on an island in Humboldt Bay. I dried them for 24 hours at 140 degrees (which is the way to do it for the Red Caps).
Ahh do you plan to eat them? I heard that experiance was a little nutty.

I'll probably make some tea -- it goes great with milk and honey. At this point, I'm filling a one gallon pickle jar with the dried caps. My experience with eating Amanita Muscaria has been pretty good, overall (I ate them maybe 25 times last year). But, yeah, I agree, they can be dicey. Two tips I follow: 1) don't drink carbonated beverages before, during, or soon after the experience and 2) take milk thistle, just in case. Some folks have also recommended manganese (not magnesium) to tone down on the convulsions. But, I've only experienced very mild 'twitching' at the worst. The four books I'd recommend on the topic are by James Aurther, Hawk and Venus, Clark Heinrich, and Don Teeter. Feel free to IM or contact me to chat about it. (But I'm far, far from an expert).

Wow, is the Milk Thistle used to protect your liver/kindeys? I take 20mg's of MT a day anyways -- tastes a lot like dirt to me. ... and you said convulsions -- I take it this experiance is far from the psyilocybin experiance? Man, it seems all you humbolt kats have all the fun. I learned NOT to walk around in the forest around Humbolt County. For the forest people protect what they have growing in there

I'm near sf, some great hunting spots all around
-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.
