WBS... To simmer or not to simmer

So i soaked this batch of WBS in some Karo water for 24 hours. It's not a lot of Karo, infact for the volume i filled up it was nearly nothing once i mixed it around. BUT! i did not simmer, and now i'm thinking that i have to. I've read many a guide on WBS, and they all say to simmer, although i've run across numerous other postings and people that say they just let them sit and then PC.
Do i have to simmer to get the correct water content? My jars have plenty of water around them, i'm just not sure how much water is actually in them. On a side note, simmering is a little out of my available options right now, so is there any other way of acheiving the correct water ratio?

I found that simmering any grain until it just starts to split and then draining very well. Then load jars and PC
Makes for very, very nice first flush
If I am using grain for inculating Straw/poo then I just soak for 24 hours and no simmer. The grains stay firm and after fully colinized the myc breaks apart very easly.

I simmered last time and I didn't notice any difference than when I hadn't simmered previous times before that. I just soak the birdseed for 8-10 hours then load it up in quart jars and pressure cook it. Just make sure and let the birdseed drain very well so you don't have excess water slowing down your colonization.

I usually place it in a strainer and shake it around for a good five minutes. Come back five minutes later and shake it some more. Eventually, when water stops dripping off of the birdseed - that's when I load them into the quart jars. Shouldn't take more than around 15 minutes.

I let mine drain for a good 30 minutes, still plenty of moisture and less chance of being to much and staling growth. =)

Yes and no If you just soak and Pc then shaking is no problem But if you soak and simmer then shaking becomes hard. Another tip about using Bird seed. The very best seed is for FINCHES Do not use the universal bird seed with 50% sunflower seeds or worse don't use the universal seed with something that looks like it has crushed little brown beans in it. I fyou use that you will have a high failure rate. FINCH FOOD It's millet based and is the very best

Dude if you are casing I would simmer the grain. Simmering puts the maxium amount of water into the grain. I hear alot of people saying they see no difference in fruiting, Simmering verse not simmering
But I found I get about 25% more fruit by simmering until grains just start to split.

Yup that pic of Seed is exactly what you don't want
FINCH FOOD is what you want. Millet based bird seed.

Ahh, Ok. Dur, I wasn't thinking right. I want to shake to reduce colonization times.. of course it can still be broken up afterwards.
Is that a good idea?

Like I said before I find that extra spores and a very good shaking right after inoculation is the best method. I never need to shake them again. The Myc starts growing on every single grain. Then 9-12 days later Presto there done.

I rinsed my birdseed today and I've had it soaking since about 4, so about 7 hours now. Would you guys say that's a safe enough time span? I wanted to let it soak for about 12, but that'd mean I would have to wake up at 4 in the morning to drain it and theres no way in hell I'll do that. So if I drain it now, rinse it a few times, then simmer for 25 minutes, I should be fine? I really wanna inoc these babies tomorrow morning.

You should let it soak for 24 hour at the very least.
