Malabar experiment
    #3247968 - 10/12/04 06:30 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hey after learning first hand how much faster Malabar Myc grows than other P. Cub strains I have come up with an idea. I want to hear feedback from you guys.

Ok here is my idea. Growing shrooms with no PC

1 -cut yellow straw up into 1 inch pieces and simmer at 170 degs for 1 1/2 hours. first to kill the baddies and second to get the water into sraw

2 -load straw into pint jars

3 -put a top layer of verm

4 -Use tyvex and the bands for lids

5 -cover in foil and simmer jars at 170 degs for 1 1/2 hours. A second simmer is need after loading jars and topping off with verm. To combat the air born nasties while loading lars

6 -after cool inculate with Malabar spores in syringe. Very Dark
syringe. 2 cc's per jar

7 -put into incubator at 86 degs

8 -birth as normal

9 -ether fruit straw cakes or cut up and inculate more straw/poo

Now here is the reason I think this will work without using a PC

Straw has proven to me that it combats contaims very very well
Malabar Myc grows like mad. At extreme rates to say the least.
So between the qualities of the straw and the qualities of the strain. I believe this will work.

I am going to be starting this experiment tommorow

What do you think??

if you try it, pastuerize the straw and the vermiculite in a pillowcase
otherwise the vermiculite would be un-needed unless you grind the straw
very finely.

Yeah me and a friend argued that straight jars would have the cakes break in half when you went to birth them... Let me know if I was right??

How did you cut the straw into the small pieces? I have visions of cutting up a straw bale with a pair of manicure scissors.

it will give you more surface area and it breaks down the cell walls more,
it will help for a speedy and complete colonization...

Well I'm not to fussy about Maalbars.  I was at first cause the picture of them is cool.  (veil stays attached late in maturity) but I hate how there myc looks.  Very fluffy, like cotton.

Anyway i'm just rambling... sorry

Mine aren't colonizing particularly fast. OI, African Transki and Amazons are all doing better then the Malabars. None of which compared to Brazilians or even Cambodians speed for that matter -shrug-. Good luck!

Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..
How I do grain (old still good tips)
Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber
