Is storage of shrooms in honey a good method of preservation? How long will they keep for?

I have never tried honey and the method sounds nasty. The shrooms turn black and gooey. Shrooms can be kept for several years if you get them cracker dry and store them in a jar away from sun light.

Storing in honey is a nice way of preserving them for upto a month. The most my friend has kept them in honey was three months but she has heard of people keeping them stored in honey for six months. When there placed in honey, the shrooms will shrink quiet alot, and they also release some of their "magic" into the honey causeing the honey to become as thin as water. Honey is a good way to make the taste of them as well. My friend uses this method regularly and enjoys it quiet alot.

Do you have to dry them or can they be fresh?

you can use either. if your dont dry them then the shrinkage blue honey was talking about is due to water flowing out of the shroom into the honey. once watered down it becomes a bacteria haven. Store in the fridge. If you get them cracker dry first they acualy soak up a little hone and get biger. they will keep longer with this method as well as no fidge needed.
Eat the honey in either method

Super Sweet. My first three were picked yesterday and I dropped them in honey. How long will it keep if stored in the fridge?
