Some awsome shrooms. Can i get some I.D. verifications?
    #3245319 - 10/11/04 11:47 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Hey I went camping this weekend and found these guys. The first one is just show and tell but if anyone could help me out with the other two ids really appreciate it. Thanks.

These where all found in a Maple forest no more than 40 ft from a river. Temp was around upper 70's

Now this one is some type of Chanterelle maybe Common? Does anyone know the activity of this mushroom?

These are some type of Bolete IV been looking at pics but can?t be sure what species. Anyone know, and what?s the edibility like on these? It seems like most boletes are poisonous but not sure about these.

Anything you guys know would be great!
If you need more details just tell me and ill get em while the mushrooms are still fresh.

the first and last ones are indeed boletes but appear to be different species.  boletes are hard to ID without some info: bruising on the pores (did it happen?  fast or slow?), reticulation, location, what they were growing on/near...  and i personally wouldnt eat that first bolete even if it were edible, it looks pretty nasty!!

and you did indeed find a chantrelle!!  they are sooo yummy!  i finally found some bigguns the other day and cooked them up last night.  enjoy!!!

RIGHT ON!!!! Go girl!

Yep...Psilygirl is correct. The yellow funneling mushrooms ar indeed Chanterelles. Nothing active about them but flavor! NUM!

The others are Boletes of which many are edible...but not all...so proper ID is important.

Enjoy you nummy Chanterells!

Thanks for the good news about the chanterelles.
The second Bolete bruised a very dark green/blue almost looks grey at first glance. Bruised very quickly, probably 10 seconds. They where found in a Maple forest a couple along the trail and one just right out in the grass.

The fast bluing reaction is a sure indicator that your bolete is poisonous.  :puke:

A bunch of the blueing species are actually listed as edible in my books.. Within the Boletus genus, I see at least 10 edible blueing species. I have a book that specializes in boletes... And yes, there are poisous blueing species, but a couple listed as choice edibles. It's not a good idea to eat any bolete unless you are certain of an exact ID, which is hard in a lot of cases.
