WASHINGTON (AFP) - John Kerry (news - web sites) has overcome a 14-point deficit in a new opinion poll showing the Democratic White House hopeful in a statistical dead heat with President George W. Bush (news - web sites).
The USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll gives Kerry a 49 to 48 percent lead over Bush among likely voters three weeks before the November 2 presidential election. A prior poll had given Bush a 54 to 40 percent edge in mid-September.
A majority of Americans polled, 49 percent, say they disapprove of the way Bush is handling the presidency, while 47 percent say they approve. In late September, 54 percent approved of Bush's handling of the job.
Kerry beats Bush on honesty (44 to 42 percent) and on which contender expresses himself more clearly (57 to 38 percent).
Still, 56 percent say Bush is a strong and decisive leader, while only 38 percent believe Kerry is a better leader.
Kerry's comeback comes on the heels of the first two presidential debates, both of which Kerry is considered to have won.
The poll showed that 45 percent of Americans believe Kerry won the second debate, which took place Friday, while 30 percent say Bush won.
The third and final debate will be held Wednesday, and 54 percent predict Kerry will win again, compared to 36 percent for Bush.
The poll, which gives independent candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) one percent of support, was conducted October 9-10 among 1,015 US adults. It has a three-percentage-point margin of error.

John Kerry doesn't have what it takes to be President. Just as he starts to advance in the polls, he makes dumb ass comments like comparing the War on Terrorism to the War on Prostitution and Illegal Gambling.

I think everyone knows that we'll never have a president who is a perfect human being. It is important however, to notice what their flaws are and more importantly how they would/could/have affected other people. Bush's rush to war, poor planning based on jury rigged intelligence, his absolute inability to admit any mistakes.. those are flaws. Flaws that have cost the lives of TENS OF THOUSANDS of people. Plus $200 billion to boot. Kerry's flaws so far have resulted in some juicy soundbites and quotes for the RNC to use in their smear campaign. Big fucking deal.

Kerry on the other hand thinks that if he's President, France and Germany will be head over heels for helping the U.S.

Do you have any evidence they won't? I am pretty damn sure they won't be inclined to be helpful if we stick with the current administration.

It looks like even Kerry is starting to come around to his senses about this now:

Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry conceded yesterday that he probably will not be able to convince France and Germany to contribute troops to Iraq if he is elected president.

Polls don't mean shit. Take for instance the Washington Post Poll showing Bush leading by 6 points as of October 12th. As much I would like to believe that I won't because I have a brain and know that polls are just a few people as compared to millions. So I wouldn't do any dancing just yet if I was you.

Nice to see that Kerry finally admits that bringing the French and Germans into this is not an option. It never was an option. He was always delusional about that. This is the first time I can remember John Forbes Kerry switching his position on an issue. At least today.

It goes to show just how foolish and empty Kerry's policies on Iraq have been. Everything has been built around what he thought was going to be his ability to build a more stronger coalation, with most notably France and Germany becoming a member. And now he himself admits that that isnt going to happen. What is his policy going to be now on Iraq ? Doesn't this change everything for him now. ?

Is Iraq Kerry's war?
You sound as if he is already Commander in Chief.

Yes, it is his war too, he supported it.
I did kind of make it sound like he was already the Pres., bad choice of words on my part. But his consistency concerning Iraq is admirable.
I never could take him seriously as far as Iraq goes and especialy not now. His position on Iraq had everything to do with building a stronger coalition and that is not going to happen, but yet he has yet to feel the need to address this huge monkey wrench that has pretty well ruined any hopes of his plans ever seeing the light of day.
