scrape a print into a jar?
    #324413 -

Is it ok just to scrape a print directly into a jar instead of using a syringe? I read it on the shroomwizards website. If it makes any difference it would be done in a glove box.

Well, I've never tried it but it should work. The concerns that I have for it are that you won't be able to use a top layer of vermiculite in your jars, so contams could be more of a problem. Also, it seems to me that it would take longer to colonize, since the spores would germinate on the top of the cake and the mycelium would have to eventually get to the bottom of the cake. If you are using quart jars with birdseed or rye or something though I think it would work just as well.

Yes it works,
I would use regular mouth quart jars and turn your lids upside down. Rubber side up and cover with tin foil. Use a glove box and practice good styril techniques. I would fill your jars 2/3 full of grain you can shake. I would innoculate it and wait until you have a nice nickle size area of mycelium growing and shake it up to distribute the mycelium evenly through the substrate. I usually get my quart jars to colonize in under two weeks in the right conditions. You can innoculate alot substrate with one print using this technique. The downside is that it is easy to contaminate your subtrate using this technique.
good luck
