oyster spore prints to help a newbie?
    #3242269 - 10/11/04 10:43 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Just getting into this as a hobby, certainly not on the scale some of you appear to be on, but I was wondering if anybody might like to share spore prints from any of the oysters (phoenix, P. ostr., P. Pulm.)--I would like to try going from spores to grain/sawdust......

Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

Mark

Sorry, should have put in original post, but if anyone is looking to get rid of blewitt or stropharia print, I'd like to try those as well (bought kits 1.5 yrs ago for each from fungi perfecti, nothing yet, I'd like to try once on my own with each yet.......)

Anyone? Anyone? lol

Thanks,
Mark

Ragadinks,

I think they mainly did not because I was under-prepared. My fault, not theirs, but I received the kits as gifts the same spring that I just finished grad. school, moved to Madison from Milwaukee, had a baby boy (well, wife "had" the baby), and started a new job. Things got done a bit half-assad, I am afraid, now that I have an actual garden with some shade cover I would like to experiment again, but not at $20.000 per pop, since I'm still not sure how its going to go.

The spawn I got from Fungi Perfecti was quite vigorous, I can say that for them (could watch the chips from SRA and the sawdust for blewitts colonize in the garage in a matter of days), so that's why I would think the error was likely on my end. Besides, at the time they recommended against just straw for either type, now I would like to try your straw bale procedure and sink a few bales in the gardem.........

Thanks for the info.
I am thinking of buying a blewitt kit from them next spring and so I am curious about the quality of their strains.
