should rye look like this
    #3241718 - 10/11/04 01:40 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

it looks very dry is this normal?, its like i have some seeds in a jar. i soaked the rye for 24 hrs in cold water , drained it for 15 minutes and pc for 60 minutes. what i measured up to 5 jars became 9 jars when i was finished. they are 4 days and no sign of mycelium. the temps have been low (20-22C) but i have turned up the oven so its now around 26 C in the room where i keep the jars. how can you tell if the rye is too dry?

Then it's too dry.
You should simmer it after the soak until the grains look like the ones on the right.

You can try. You have nothing to lose.(if you can afford the spores)

That sounds like a much better conversion. After a soak I find they soak up almost double the water, after a simmer the almost double again...

i washed the grain and added 170ml REAL hot 'n steamy water for soaking.
do u rinse ur grains after soaking or do u put the jars straight into the pc?

reason im asking is if u add any more water since the grain will soak up
some of the 170ml or if u just keep it as is.

Straight into the PC. Shake when they're still warm after your PC and jars are cool enough to remove them. Will help distribute the wet and dry kernals and keep them from sticking. Shake again after you knock them up and again once about 10% colonized. Good luck!

Well doesnt it make sense to not rinse. I mean why measure out water to begin with if your going to strain the water out just to put more back in  You could soak with any amount of water if you were to add the water after. But then you'd need to add less water because of what theyd suck up..anyways.....

Yeah good luck!
