    #3240807 - 10/11/04 12:15 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

k my first casing is beggining to pin. 3 1/2 pint brf cakes crumbled about an inch thick in appropriate sized container. I keep reading about dunking casings after the first flush. is this done just like cakes? 12 hours or so in fridge. do you just fill the container with water and put in the fridge, or do you remove it from the container? couldnt find a tek dealing with dunkin casings. thanks for the help

Don't dunk your casing it's not necessary. Dunking is a cake tek IMHO and works great there! Casings are to be managed if you want to get 5,6,7,8+ flushes. Water delivery is the key with casings. Also don't cold shock casings that will just slow growth thats it! Casings done properly takes a little more edjamucation than cakes! Of course there are many that do what they want anyway never taking it to the next level and are happy with their results. I will tell you there is a difference. GL and please don't mess up natures perfect plan    :mushroom2: :mushroom2:

well thank you for the advice. I didnt think that dunking casings seemed logical, but Im pretty sure Ive read about it somewhere on the message bored. Other than that I must say thanks to all for making my first grow a remarkable success. cakes are fruiting like crazy, my casing is pinning like crazy, and all of this growers worries have faded. The whole time I was expecting the worst, but I am getting wonderful results thanks to the shroomery and all of the people like yourself that have answered my questions. I swear if one follows directions, positive results are sure to follow. At this point though I dont think Ill ever do a cake again, casings are where its at. thanks again

Hyphae, a question. I've just read every single post regarding casing and dunking in the past 4 months becaue I have 5 jars that I'm going to case.(Yeah, this took forever and lots of muntain dew) Some say dunk cake before casing some says doesn't matter. I'm thinking that anything that would disrupt the growth of mycelium growth even for a little would slow down the momentum it built. I'm also thinking that a well layered substrate in the casing would be able to replenish moisture from the casing very fast.(I'm planning on lay down the cucumber sliced cakes like bubble wands, but closer, with some crumbled cake to cover joints. trying to maximize the surface area in contact with casing)
So the question is, does it make any difference if you dunk the cake if you lay down and take care of your casing well?

Sam

Doesn't matter. Just keep the casing moist.
