Need Help Plz
    #3239627 - 10/10/04 06:18 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hello.. Im looking to purchase a new computer soon.. I used to know everything there was to know about them.. but ive fallen off and its been a good 5 years and i dont know what to get.. Im looking for speed! Its been awhile since ive had one and by god i want a nice one.. What kind of processer should i get? I keep seein things like Amd xp 3200 but it has (2.2ghz) beside it.. So does that mean a Intel celeron 2.4 would be faster?

If you could hook me up with a nice combo to go with.. Also front side buss is a big deal too right? So should i be looking for something with like 400mhz fsb with 7200 rpm's hd and 3.ghz + be fast? but what kind of processer?

Im so lost any feedback would help thanks!

I'm sure someone can find a good computer for you.

are you looking for something custom built or a pre-made computer like from emachines/dell/gateway, etc.?

what's your price range?

what are you looking to do with the computer? gaming, multimedia, general use?

dont get a celeron. Intels are more expensive, so go with AMD if cost is a concern. id recomend getting a cpu-mobo combo or even a barebones kit from www.pricewatch.com or www.froogle.com and buying the other components you want sepperatly.

try to get an nforce chipset based board if you buy AMD. VIA and SIS have to many bad years of their head up their ass's to be trusted.

if you dont plan on upgrading anytime soon and you want a gaming machine, do yourself a favor and get at least an 128mb video card, either Radeon or Nvidia, 8x AGP. Make sure the motherboard supports 8x AGP and dont get an integrated graphics mobo because it usually costs a bit more for some crappy graphics. The reason you should get a video card and not integrated graphics is because integrated graphics hog your CPU resources and make your gaming pretty slow and crappy. AMD Athlon XP processor would be a good idea if you dont want to spend more than $600, which is probably what it's gonna cost for a decent system. For gaming, it's really not necessary to have an ultra fast processor as long as you have a decent video card, so dont go too overboard on that proc.
