i was thiking about something... if i put a layer of 50 50 casing on the bottem, crumbled cakes, thinlayer of more casing, then another layer of cake... and repeat few more times till all the cake is spread out...then a layer of casing...will this help or hinder the regrowth of mycelium and future flushes? my idea comes from shroomgod's straw tek methed of layering, and my cakes are just comming out from dunking. too much moisture may buildup? what do you think? You guys have been great from day one, i've learned a HELLA LOT! thanks!

If you use colonized crumbled grain, or even crumbled up PF cakes, you're getting some casing mix inbetween the grain anyway. I don't see much wrong with a really thin layer of fairly wet casing mix but I don't see the benefits being particularly higher than regular casing.

one lyer of substrate is the ideal amount. otherwwise, u make the myc. use nutrients moving through the other layers that they could be making fruiting bodies with.

Perfect casing:

break the cake up into super small chunks.

take container, wipe down with alcohol.

put down a layer of dry vermiculite, itll end up getting wet from waterseepage and whatnot.

put down an even layer of substrate, put down a layer of wet vermiculite.

perforate the vermiculite surfaace so as to make a bunch of hills and valleys, which careat a great pinnign micro climate

spray that verm down allt he fuckign time, but make it keep the micro climate structure

Shroomsgods tek is specifically for straw. That isn't the casing. If you look, after the layers are laid and fully colonized he then puts his casing mix on and only in one layer (this would be your 50/50). Straw is nutrious and meant to be used as substrate. Casing is non nutrious. Spawning is done like that to turn a few quarts of spawn into a huge casing of straw and then cased. Doing this with a non nutrious thing (50/50) wouldnt do what you want. Stick with the top layer of casing only (and a bottom if you want it).

You can however mix in moist verm with just about any substrate when you case it to let the substrate hold more water. This works pretty good and would benifit you more then layering a casing.
