Just finished my Perlite PMP..
    #3238789 - 10/10/04 11:55 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

She's been running for about 45 mins now. I don't really like the way the perlite behaves.. plus the bag I got seems to be a rather fine grade.  I think I will definately be switching to geolite in the future.

Bubbling away... just before the perlite. Dual 18" bubblewands. Yes, I staggered them on purpose.  :crazy2:

Temp is low because the water was cold... Will have to watch it over the next several hours to see how the humidity changes. Looking good so far, though.

My ghetto air pump filter.

I used some foam weather stripping and polyfill to make sure the outgoing air lines and power cord was sealed up well and solid.

I couldn't justify the cost of the HEPA bags, although if I run into problems I'll switch to one.

Going to birth and dunk my cakes, and get some casing material ready in a bit!

Out of curiosity, what is your perlite/water level (in inches)?

I think my water level is like 2". It had to be quite deep because the suction cups on my bubble wands lift them up off the bottom quite a bit(I didn't just suction them down, I glued the cups down with 3M Plastic Adhesive), and I wanted to make sure the bubbles were going to travel through as much water as possible to grab as much moisture as possible.

I'll go measure.

Yeah, my water level is 1.75". The perlite is 1" above that. So the total level is about 2.75".

It's been running for 3 hours now, and when I opened it up the humidity was at 97%. The perlite is completely saturated all the way to the top now.

Just a little update..

After 4.5 hours, the humidity seems to have topped off at 98%. Good enough for me.

It appears that my 10W light bulb isn't going to be enough to keep it warm, though. It's struggling to hit 70 degrees. I'll give it another few hours and see how it's doing..

Indeed! Their claim of +/- 1% seems to be true. I just love to brag that it registered exactly 75% after about 8 hours in a ziploc with a Mt. Dew cap of slushy salt.  :crazy2:

Quite the steal for less than 20$ shipped on eBay.

Many hygrometers will do fine on the salt test and won't be accurate at higher humidity. This one seems to register correctly (or at least close enough) at all times  Yep same place I got mine. It has stopped working after 3 months now. I'm not sure if it was the high humidity or battery though. It was worth the money though. Now I don't need it anymore though, I can tell humidity and temp close enough.

That's a little alarming that it quite working after 3 months. The battery should last 2 years. Lithium Ion batteries start dying the minute they're manufactured, though.. It is possible you got an old one or something.

It has a 5 year warranty, so you shouldn't have any problems getting another if you contact the manufacturer.

Yeah its just kinda not worth the trouble for me. They are good while they last though  If it starts flashing blank when you squeeze it, it's on its way out..
