Why do people say alcohol makes you gain weight?

Nonesense! Quite the opposite really.
I mean, when I'm drunk, if I look in the mirror, I look really sexy.
It's rather interesting.
My avatar may not look like it, but when drunk, I look exactly like Johnny Depp.
You should see it sometime.
It's really rather interesting.,

Depends what kind of alcohol. Hard liquor won't make you gain weight, but beer sure as hell will.

Actually, alcohol slows your metabolism wayy down during the 24-48 hours processing time.....that, combined with the carbs in beer or mixed drinks, can cause you to gain weight.

Alcohol has quite a bit of energy in it. You're body can still metabolize it.

but the breakdown process involves the kreb cycle and sugar metabolism, and thusly slows down the processing of all the other energy containing shit, which then gets filed away under the "fat" tab.

Wrong. Beer won't make you gain weight. There are less calories in beer(44kcal/100g) than in milk(66kcal/100g), but beer does make you hungry

common misconception, however, hard alcohol has the exact same amount of carbs and calories as beer does, it just has more water so you feel more bloated.

Alcohol is it's own caloric group - there is approximately 64 calories in 1 OZ of alcohol (80 proof). Obviously mixed drinks will have more calories because here are things added like sugar. Where do you think the tem "beer gut" comes from?

When you compare the difference on how much an average person drinks milk and beer, I think you'd find that most people are satisfied with a single 8 oz serving of milk, while a lot of people drink a whole six paack of beer.
