    #3237497 - 10/09/04 10:33 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

how long will my cakes take to dry after soaking them in the fridge for a day? I plan to crumble em up and make a casing...

you dont want them to dry, why would you soak them if you did?? crumble them up when the excess water drains out

You don't want them to dry, psilly. You could pat down the outside with paper towels if you felt so inclined.,.,.,just case 'em!

It's all good, man.

I personally wouldn't go much longer than a day in the fridge, although some do. And no, rolling would accomplish nothing...save your vermiculite for the casing.

Hey, Mockeylock. You don't want to dunk the cake before casing. Idea of dunking the cake is to telling mycelium to slow down the mycelium growth and start fruiting. What you want when you case is for the mycelium network to continue to grow until you have are ready to fruit the casing. So, don't dunk the cake before casing.

Anyways, Good luck
Sam

No, the idea of dunking is to rehydrate the cake. Case if you want to. If you're referring to cold-shocking, that's BS as far as Cubensis is concerned...it only slows things down.

Dunk them in the fridge once fully colonized.

24 hours is enough but they'd be fine for a while. Adding h202 when you dunk (a small splash) would make sure they didn't contam and other then that the myc can stay cold without dying for a while.

Once your ready to case them, pull them out of the fridge and let them drain until they stop dripping (like 20-30 seconds) then crumble up the cakes into a 1-1 1/2 inch thick layer and then lay a 1/2"-3/4" layer of casing mix (coir and verm is the best IMO but straight coir, straight verm, peat, peat+verm, whatever you want works).

Cover with tin foil or saran wrap but poke a few air holes in it.

Put back in the incubator for 2-3 days until a few places of myc starts poking out.

At this point you can either put it in your fruiting chamber or you can patch it.

To patch, take some extra casing mix and pile a little on top of the white areas poking through. This gives the rest of the casing to catch up so you have an even layer of myc:

Thats after sitting in the fruiting chamber for a week after patching.

Keep the casing nice and glistening!

I know its confusing, many people have different ways of going about it and you gotta find your own way but IMO ^^this stuff will give you the best results. But what do I know? Good luck!
