Not magic but..

.. anyone know what it is? It stood out due to it's largish size and being the only thing in the field.. and I like the picture :smile:

The nearest thing in my book seems to be a Shaggy Parasol.. ?

Might be, a white spore print would confirm some kind of Parasol, a green would indicate the poisonous Chlorophyllum molybdites.

Lepiota Rachodes is the shaggy parosol and will have a white spore print.

Wait to see and then you'll have a better idea.

They can upset some peoples systems...but I've found them to be really nummy in chicken noodle soup or vietnamese soup! Especially the lept overs!

A good field test to differentiate it from Amanitas is that the ring around the stem should be moveable. Obviously, this would be an additional test to the spore colours mentioned by Shroomydan & Freedomseeker.

Keep a look out for 'regular' Parasols too, they're tastier, larger (safer when dealing with Lepiotas), have a sort of snakeskin-like pattern on the stem, non-reddening flesh, and don't carry the stomach upset risk.

There's quite a few around here, and I invariably find a couple for breakfast :smile:

nice looking ive saw a few pop up around neighborhood lawns, interesten mushrooms

My guess is you didn't find these growing in lawns. C. molybdites is a common(yet very poisonous) look-a-like that is very frequently found on lawns. Spore print should definately be done before ever considering eating any mushroom that looks like this.

I'd agree with that. I've only ever found them on windswept places, around 70m elevation, hiding amongst ferns or heather in areas with horses and cows milling around. They're invariably near paths used by said animals.
