Does this pic. look like the right type of rye?
    #3236658 - 10/09/04 04:42 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I just got back from the grain mill, and th only kind of rye I could get is in the picture here. Being that I am in Kentucky, they have this kind of rye available for the distillery industry here.

hopefully this is the right kind of rye because I now have 500 pounds of it! nobody here ever heard of rye berries, what are they usually used for? :mushroom2: :rasta:

I would love to take a closer pic. but I need to figure out how to turn the quality of my pics down so they don't get so small when I upload them to the shroomery. anyone know how to do this?

Unfortunately, I can't take credit for the pic. When I get some rye berries of my own, I will be sure to take an ultra-closeup.

And.. Holy sh1t! 500lbs?!  :oogle: :what:

Dayum. Isn't it bad to use old grains though? ie: a few years old? Also.. you better make sure you store it well.. I bet it wouldn't take much moisture to make it go bad.

How much space does 500lbs of rye berries take up, anyway? lol....

So you a whiskey man?  Funny how if you put the most basic grain in the right conditions, it will FUCK YOU UP. :muppet:

God bless rye.

I'm not an alcohol drinker but everyone else in KY. either makes it or drinks it!
I have the grain stored in 3 big rubbermaid trashcans with lids and wheels, and 1 40 quart plastic bin.
Hopefully this will be a good way to store it with no moisture!

500 bags wouldnt last me 5 years. 50 pounds a month easy and that thing would only last like 10 months.

Long as its stored in a dry place it won't go bad and should be fine.

A 50 pound bag is about the size of a 50 pound bag of dog food..so probably an area of 12 inches by 36 inches by 40-50 inches (if you picture the bags stacked on top of eachother on their sides). Give or take.
