Amanita Pantherina finds
    #3235713 - 10/09/04 05:36 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Amanita pantherina found anywhere there isn't fire or around boiling water
Truly a beautiful sight to just sit all day and watch grow
A few squirrels ate half of a cap then left em alone,
they were runnin around like they were tripping and shit
digging up shit that wasn't there! LOL
watching them grow in groups looks like a panther giving love to its young

Those are not even Amanitas.

The big one is a Lepiota, probably the choice edible Parasol. [edit... A white spore print will confirm an edible Parasol, a green spore print will indicate the extremely toxic Chlorophyllum molybdites.]

The others are unidentifiable, possibly a mixed collection; some of them look poisonous to me.

For your own safety do not eat any mushroom you find until you learn how to Identify them. Give us the info requested here and we can help.

Chlorophyllum molybdites is a possibility, but given the maturity of the mushroom in the photo, the gills would likely be showing some green coloration due to accumulation of spores.

The cream colored gills and lack of green on the stem and ring lead me to believe that it is probably Lepiota procera or one of its close relatives which drop white spores and are edible.

A spore print would tell for sure.

It didn't sound like ectobia was planning to eat it so I didn't mention the poisonous Chlorophyllum molybdites, but in the future I suppose it would be prudent to mention this species whenever the data is not conclusive for a Parasol ID. I will edit my earlier post.

Amanita Pantherina:

caution: some amanitas are DEADLY poisonous... I would stick with Muscaria
