would only 5 minutes of light and two fannings a day be enough to initiate pinning? my terrarium is about 20 inches long and wide and 15 inches high, so would 1 inch of perlite and 1/4 inch of water keep the humidity high enough?

Hmm, I would rather go with at least 30 minutes of light, but give it a try with less, you?ll see how it works out.
Your humidification seems reasonable for cakes.
