i have some jars that i made from manure, verm, and brf. i innoculated them with panaleous spores and 4 out of 12 got contams. my friend bought the same panaleous spores when i did and used 3:5, brf:verm as his substrate and theyre doing good, but the mycelium doesnt look as healthy and rhizmorphic as mine. he saved 4 1/2cc and since hes been really paraniod about everything he decided to sell them to me. so now i got these spores and im not sure whether to use the substrate with manure, or just the normal 3:5 pf tek style. the good thing about the one with manure is that you dont have to spawn it, and that makes it easier to a beginner panaleous cultivator like me, and it also saves time. so, what do you think i should do?

panaleous mycelium usualy doesn?t look as healthy and bright white as cubensis does. it?s more wispy and thin and not rhyzomorphic.

Sometimes you will get really white looking mycelium, but as a general rule it is light geyish-white, it is a fairly weak mycelium compared to cubes.
As far as using dung goes---It works GREAT! I would imagine that somewhere in your process you have picked up the contams. Manure is not a good host for most contams, that is why there is no need to sterilize it--only pateurization is required. The BRF is another story-- make sure you use a good sterilization method when using it. Boiling will work in MOST cases but preassure coking is much prefered.

i guess it is not rizmorphic, just lots of strands and theres clumps of white that have gray strands coming from it. as far as progress goes, theres one jar that is 75% colonized and the other 6 are 50% or less. i dont now what is up with me and contams but through my experience of growing ive never got any. as for what im going to do next, you gave me some great info but never told me what to choose. i think ill just go with the manure brf and verm again.
