Hyphal knots, usually a precursor to pins.

Regular light. Shrooms respond best to the bluer wavelengths in light, if memory serves, which isn't present in a blacklight (right? correct me, anyone). Regular lightbulbs work fine--your babies don't photosynthesize.

Black lights are too low in the spectrum, producing mostly UV light. Which is for the most part out of the visible spectrum and around 100 - 400 nm (Wavelength). The shrooms need mostly blue light (Which is one of the dominant lights in sunlight) around 500nm(Wavelength). Also a lot of the light coming from blacklights gets stopped by glass only UV light at 320-400nm (Wl) can make it through.

ok, but i read the book "the mushroom cultivator" by paul stamets. and he says that UV light stimulates pinning .
thats why i used a black light.
does the black light not produse enough light ???

'The Mushroom Cultivator' broke new ground at the time it was written..however, since that time, with the newfound ease of indoor growing, experimentation has found that it is the blue spectrum of light and not UV that initiates pinning.

My guess is that the black light at its peak wavelength reaches the minimum required parameters to fruit. Like was said above, plain ol' sunlight will work fine, or possibly a blue party light.

That's interesting, I've never heard that before (and, obviously, haven't read the book). Explains why so many people try and use blacklights anyway, that never made a load of sense to me. Most people agree that If you can see your babies they're getting enough light. Duration seems to be pretty unimportant with most cubies, some people get by letting in light only while fanning. I have heard that sometimes they will even grow in the dark, but they'll go every which way with no guiding light.
