    #3232251 - 10/08/04 08:52 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

hello all, i have been looking in shops for brown rice flour, cant find any. All i can find is organic brown rice, i dont have coffee grinder and dont really want to pay ?15 for one, is there any other way of effectivly grinding it that i havnt thought of? why can you not just boil it slowly until its mush?

Yeah, why not just use a blender? I guess if you're really oldschool you could go the morter and pestle route.

If you MUST get down and dirty...

Go to a tag-sale and find a pepper grinder.

Or do like I do, boil the rice in the microwave until it is soft, use as little water as possible, and only add enough to keep it covered. When it is soft, just crush with the bottom of a glass in a pyrex dish, or use a spoon to crush.

Not the best method, but it works.

If it is like oatmeal, then you are a little too wet, should be more like peanut butter. This mixes well with damp vermeculite.

After mixing, pop the mixture, with vermeculite, back into the microwave for another 2 min. on high. Now your cake is reaady for inoculation, after it cools! (Don't forget to put the top back on after you remove it from the microwave, and clean the edges before you put the lid on.

Otherwise, from now on, try harder to find brown rice flower. GNC health food stores, stop and shops, internet.

My advice get some dark rye flour then  mix very well dry first then also wet. This stuff works excellent but it gets a little gooey :wink:GL

I'm in the same situation with the BRF. Does using the solid rice really work?

There's a rice cake tek out there somewhere. It worked well for me. Hell, you're supposed to be able to eat the rice afterwards (if you are brave) for a trip.

IF* you have a health-food store in your town/city then you have brown rice flour.
It is kept in the cooler in most stores. Just go to your healthfood store and ask if they have any.
