if you have a heating pad and a timer, put the Air pumps on top of a heating pad and put the pad on the heater to work only at night.  It'll help you stablize the temperature.

If not, go out and buy an aquarium tank heater and put it under the rocks in the middle and maintain 75F.  It'll work   You can use this heater during summer for tub in tub incubator.

You can pick up an used tank heater at some smaller tropical fish stores for couple of bucks.  A lot cheaper than $20 for a new one.  Look in the yellow pages.

yea actually i have a aq heater the problem was i didnt get it set up and it got colder than it was supposed to. Id say around 60 in my PMP and it seemed to make one of my cakes abort the first flush. im just confused how my casing which is a diffrent strain now have even more pins than b4.

Same as cold shocking. Temperature drop is one of the indication that the mycelium has grown out of the dung in the wild. So, it's going into fruiting cycle. Also, the outside temperature on large masses such as a casing has a lot less effect on the mycelium network than tiny bitty things like cakes. Just cut your losses on first flush of aborts and have a good meal with it. Start working on your 2nd flush with cakes and take care of them a bit better.

It's my understanding that low temperature will induce a lot of pins but the mycelium will work on larger ones and abort the rest. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. 75F seems to be ringing in my head from reading all these posts.

I do not think the temperature drop was your problem. I stick casings in my fridge everyday to cold shock them with no problem. I also think cubies are fine into the 60's and that heat is a bigger problem.

I'd guess either to wet/to dry or possible contams. I've been known to be wrong though.
