my first time growing..

i finally got a friend who will let me grow at his house.. and i look at all this shit like it is SOOO much work and stuff.. but i want to give it a try..

where should i start? (i am a complete newbie)

Read till you can't take it anymore...Then read some more....

growmushrooms.org, like someone else posted, comes highly recommended--it hardly needs modification (leave out the ramsey seal garbage, go old skool and lay on an inch of verm) and its got pics built right in. It incorporates perlite and has instructions for a ghetto glovebox if memory serves. START there. Read and read and read, look at some casing teks, read about how to make syringes and prints, read everything you can get your grubby little hands on. Then read it all again. 3 times.

That said, you probably don't need to read that much...but the more informed the better. Many people will tell you to pick a tek and follow it to the letter. I think that if you understand basically what you are doing it's fine to color outside the lines, try some casings, sterilize some jars in a veggie steamer, leave a couple jars invitro, birth with and without lids...you get what I'm saying. If you have a question, ask. No wait--search, search again, see if you can find the answer in a tek, and then ask. If you want opinions, ask--don't expect anyone to agree on much of anything here though :)

Great advice Krendle. Me no know computers. I think I'll check out that site for myself.
I'd buy a couple books too if I were you. "The Mushroom Cultivator" by Stamets and
"PSILOCYBIN Magic Mushroom Growers Guide" by Oss & Oeric. If only one get the former. Books save lots of time and you can even fit them in your bed when your body is tired but your mind is hungry.

well thanks everyone! i have been reading quite a bit (with the spare time i have) and i am excited to gets started.. but i have a question...

the only place i can keep em in, it is fairly cold (60-70 degrees) and there is no light..

i will be growing them in a shop behind my house and there is no light.. so i dono what to do...

cold->colonisation ->slow>bad
cold->fruiting ->slow>indifferent
no light:colonisation-->good
fruiting -> bad, very bad, they need at least a liitle light
