heating pad or tub in tub. heating pad is at walmart, rite aid, echerd, etc. tub in tub all you need is at walmart.

Aquarium heaters are the best. The safest and best way is to do a tub in tub (bottom tub filled with water and heater fully submerged and a tub of equal size on top with jars or whatever in it and a blanket over it).

heating pad has a few quirks to it, so if you decide to go with this, you'll need a few things.

2 thermometers, a rubbermaid, a cooling rack (for cooling cookies and the like), and some towels.

put the heating pad on a fire-safe surface. put down a folded towel (at least two layers of towel) over the heating pad. then place your rubbermaid over this. put another towel on the inside. put the cooling rack inside the rubbermaid. if it doesn't clear the towel, prop it up with maybe two or three empty jars or spare cups from the cupboard (sterile, of course). put one thermometer on the side off of the bottom, and another on the cooling rack.

if you put them directly on the heating pad, you'll dry out your jars. if you set it up like i've directed, you'll spread the heat out and not overheat the jars..

shoot for an 84 degree reading on the thermometers. you don't want to go over by anything but maybe 1-2 degrees. try the heating pad on low and medium. if one is under and another is over, put it on the low setting and try putting a blanket over the whole thing. shift things around, just fiddle and figure out what works for you.

I hear tub in tub is the way to go... I'm doing it that way next time.
