What causes aborts and how can I stop this?
    #3227627 - 10/07/04 02:59 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

For some reason it seems that my pins never grow fast enough and turn into 1-2" aborts. What are some ways this could be preventable if any? and what's causing it? I'm using Mycobags. How long do pins/aborts last before they start to rot?

Nah, I looked just wanted to see if there was any mycobag related help..since most topics were on pf jars/casing stuff that I saw..anyway I was thinking maybe there's too much humidity? I doubt air exchange could be all that great just with the filter patch so fanning might help?

Well if you want specifics you should ask about specifics to get better responses. That is absolutly why, air exchange is important. Growing in a bag you arent going to get the awsome yeilds a casing in a nice chamber with optimum conditions would. If your just fanning the outside of the bag, that wouldnt help. You'd need to actually open the bag and get the air out. They need lots of fresh air. But they also need humidity and if they're just in the bag I doubt thats high enough either. To little humidity and not enough fresh air would be my guess. You should still be getting some to mature and get a decent yeild out of a bag though.

i would poke a few holes in the bag or throw it away and birth your myc in a 10gal plastic or glass container if the subtrate is all white it dont need to be sterile any more when it pins it needs regular room exchange or even better you could put air pump in tuppaware with facemask filter, hose going in to jar trough lid with a bubbler and water another a tad bigger comeing out of the top into the bag or container you want moist air flow so use the water jar for sure and use hotglue gun to seal stuff up.gl
