Neem powder for gnats?
    #3227417 - 10/07/04 02:19 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hi, I've been having some problems with gnats lately.  If I were to mix neem powder into some verm, hydrate with lime water, microwave, would this affect the properties of the neem powder that make it helpful?  And what ratio should be used for neem powder to casing material?  Thanks very much!

The active ingredients on neem will lose strength when exposed to high heat and sunlight. I believe this was never tried, so i can't give you an exact ratio.
You'll have to try it yourself. Anyway, it sounds like a good idea ...

on another note...I am now going on month 3 of having to shut down shop, due to Phorid Flies. (similar to fungus gnats, but have red eyes and are slow-moving.)

I'm not even attempting to start back up again until I know that they're all gone. I just saw 2 flying around my place last night.
Problem is, they can take hold in your sink drain and breed there.
I have a feeling they may have done this. There are products to help clear this up though.

Hmm.  Perhaps hydrate verm with lime water, microwave 5 min, let cool, mix in neem powder?  I'll have to hunt down the ratio used.  It was in a post by someone--winelover, perhaps?--either here or at mycotopia.  Thanks all!
Oh.  I'm going to flood/dunk my casings with some 15% h2O2 water tonight and let 'em sit for 16 hours or so.  I have this feeling these casings are spent, but, hell, I want to see if this flushed out any larvae or if it helps bring on one last flush.  Not crossing fingers.  I need the containers to case some new quarts anyway.
