Hey guys, AFOAF recently finished his first attempt, and also got a brand spankin new digital camera. He told me that since he loves playing with his camera and wants to give back to the community,he would be happy to snap pics of all his experiments if people would like to see them (just ask). Here is a pic of a straight verm casing. Notice the odd looking black "racing stripes" on some of the shrooms, and also, the biggest funguy AFOAF has grown. To the left is a coco fiber casing waiting for it's second flush. Are all those black pins normal??

Your crop looks fine. All should be edible--- It is a hard picture to gather too many details from.

hey, I posted them HUGE cause I always wished the pictures here were bigger and more detailed. Before I waste time posting any more, what does the majority prefer Huge and big file size or small and easier/faster to download??
BTW, the strain is Ecuador from sporechicks on 1 pint BRF, and I got away clean with the jewels and went on to bigger and better things. Yet, I still sound like a pussy with this name. Thanks for asking ;)

Here is an overhead of AFOAF's terrarium after first flush. The two pie tins on top are compromised of pieces of coco fiber casing stuck together after they were attacked by trich. The barren looking coco casing on bottom wa actually a straight verm that never grew much during incubation so it was recased with coco fiber and unfortunately it skipped vegatative growth and began pinning immeditely. Yields are expected to be low.

Here is what you do NOT want quarts of BS to look like. All jars were soaked/steeped and PC'ed for 70 mins, but ALL 48 wound up first with wetspot, then this Trich looking mold. Hope you have better luck, AFOAF has given up on quarts after tons of failure.

Here is a plate of dried funguys from the first flush of the only un-contamed coco casing. Pinset and yields were AMAZING. AFOAF wound up with 23 DRIED grams of mushies from the FIRST flush of 2 1/2 pints of BRF cased with coco fiber!! Unfortunately, even though he used gro-brick and semi-sterile procedures, the other two casing got white/green mold and yielded significantly lower.
Even though this is just the first flush, the casing shrunk so fucking much AFOAF does not have high expectactions for a second flush. Look up at the first picture and look at the casing on the left to see what I mean.

Hey, that jar sure looks funky hombre! eeeww! Nice lookin little casings. You don't use any perlite in the bottom of that Sterlite? Where does your humidity come from? The humidity fairy? lol...It's great to get a digicam huh? Then you can share with everyone else. :-)

TrippinRhino: Humidity comes from misting once daily before pinning, and the moisture evaporation of the casings. Perlite is a waste of time with casings. It is useless IMO.
If you think that jar looks bad, you should SMELL it. Ughhh....

I can see that you bought a Kodak; nice quality photos. . .what brand is that camera?
Coir gave you mold, eh? It's given me bacterial blotch [well the fruits, anyway]. Cutting back on misting, increased fanning seems to have taken care of it though. . .mold is probably terminal :(

Shit, I just took a closer look at the left casing. . .looks suspiciously like the blotched fruits I've seen, though it is hard to tell for sure. Are the black heads gooey?

Suntzu: Thanks. Camera is a Kodak DC3400. So far it has been great, and I only paid about 300 for it. Quite a bargain....
Does your bacterial blotch happen to make your stems appear hollow, and your fruits mushy and slimy? I have seen this on my verm casing and one of my coco's? Is the fruit inedible when it is mushy/hollow like this, cause otherwise they look fine?

My blotch did one of two things--made little abhorts [~1.5" tall] with gooey caps. If you touch the black part with your finger, you will get some goo on your finger. It also infected some fully grown fruits, even the 9 inchers, giving small patches of goo that would grow if the humidity rose above a certain level. I didn't notice a hollowing of the stems, though.
If the fruits look fine, go for it. I've been cutting off the gooey sections before drying.
It's funny, with the coir trays, I had some degree of blotch in EACH one during the first flush; now the 2nd flush is coming up strong with no trace of it. Kinda odd. I think I overmisted during the first flush.
Where'd you score that deal on the cam?
