screw verizon. Hack your lg vx3200
    #3227298 - 10/07/04 02:00 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

ok i posted this over on howard forums at:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=451385&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

but i figured maybe some of you guys have this phone, so heres my little tutorial on how to get your 3200 to play mp3's.

Quote:

the vx3200 seems to be the only phone that has not been tamed yet, this is all information that i scrapped up from random recesses of this forum, and the far reaches of some threads that go on for 16 pages. i have seen lots of people saying "how
do i get a data cable for the lg vx3200" well here it is, and here is how you hook it up and get it working with free ringtones and mp3s all in one nice spot.

go out and buy yourself a future dial cable #19 (radio shack id, #1700792),it will say it is for the vx6000, but it fits perfectly with no modding into a vx3200. it costs around 23$ but well worth it!

go home, and download these drivers right here...
http://members.driverguide.com/list/company1661/index.html get the futuredial usb composite device driver by prolific, then install those drivers. you have to sign up to use driver
guide, but its free, so suck it up and do it.

reset your computer (i didnt have to to get it to work, but if your having issues try this step)

then you plug in your cable into the usb port, windows XP should immediatly recognize it and will call it "Prolific USB to serial COM port".

ok now download either qpst, or bitpim version 0.62 ( http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/#download ). i havnt been sucessful with the .7 version, but you can try if you like. I like bitpim better than qpst personally, but whatever floats your boat.

ok now goto your desktop and right click on "My Computer" click on properties, then click on the hardware tab, then click on device manager. go down to where it says "Ports(com &lpt)" and click the plus sign next to that. You should see the "prolific usb to serial com port" and then in parentethes it should say (COM4) or (COM5) or whatever it is for your computer. Remember what this says!

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, without this step you WILL get errors!! you have to do this everytime you power cycle your phone and
want to transfer to it again. turn on your vx3200, go into menu, then settings, then data settings, then data/fax and change
it to "data in always". this only lasts till the phone is power cycled so dont worry.

ok now plug your phone into the cable, and install bitpim.

when you run bitpim for the first time it will ask you to specify a com port. You can click the browse button, and it will show you most likely exactly the one you want to use, but if it doesnt, look through them for "prolific...etc." and select the com port your saw in the device manager from earlier.

now the test of truth. in bitpim you should goto the filesystem tab and then click on the +. it should take about 20 or 30 seconds and it will load up the contents of your phone!!!
make sure your phone's data/fax setting is set to data in always, or you will get "cannot connect to vx4400" as an error.

at this point i recommend you right click on the root "/" and click backup entire tree, and save all of your phone to somewhere on your computer, just in case you screw things up real bad.

NOW, if you want to add mp3s or midi files to your phone, go down to the user directory, then into sound, then into ringer.

now right click on the folder "ringer" and click new file, and you can put in your short midi files, or your trimmed mp3s.

Once you have put in the songs that you want, goto the folder "download" then "dloadindex" and delete the file brewRingerIndex.map . now power off your phone, and turn it back on and your ring tones will be in with the standard rings that came with your phone. i dont put any mp3s on larger than 250 kb, out of fear of ruining my phone. i wouldnt put more than one megabyte total on the phone, even though that is a number i totally pulled out of my @$$.

im not gonna explain how to trim mp3s or trim midi files, because so many people at this site have done such a great job of it already. ( goto http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=246000 and follow the basic directions for trimming and resampling a mp3, and renaming it to mid)

i recommend you all check out blazer380's http://www.s-c-u-m.com/cell/ its a great site with lots of premade mp3's and polyphonic tones for your phone.

well now scattered bits of info, are one big pile of info. if you guys have questions ask! (vx3200 only)

well i hope this helps out some people with there vx3200. it took me about 10 hours to get this all figured out with great help from this site, but hopefully now people with the vx3200 will be able to get it up and running in a half hour or so.

~JSlice~

hope some of you guys will find this usefull. FUCK VERIZON! free ringtones for life.

oh, and if any of you wanna know how to get free wallpaper pictures of anything on your phone, i could post that too.

Interesting. Is there a way to do this via T-Mobile using Motorola's V600 which is really a Cingular phone?

I tried doing this, but I had no user directory. I instead had .dat files in the sms directory that had a midi format. I tried to make a midifile in to this format, but when I loaded it on, it became locked in and I can not remove it now. I was wondering if there was some way to unprotect the file so I could delete it. I was also wondering if there were any ideas as to what my problem may be.
