Accidently broke casing. In half. Will it be ok.
    #3226919 - 10/07/04 12:46 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I thought there was too much casing soil on top. So I turned the container upside down and held onto the sides of the casing. Well it broke in half. It is about 9 inces wide by 13 long. I put it back in the tray. It is still all together except it is in two pieces now.

I would think it would be ok. What does everone else think. Will this slow fruiting down. It has been in my fruiting terrium for about a week now.

it will be fine if it doesn't get contaminated.

my real question is WHY ARE YOU USING SOIL TO CASE? soil is a horrbile casing material. use vermiculite, coco coir, coir + vermiculite is even better, peat moss + vermiculite...

You made this post twice..this is what I said on your other thread:
--------------
I've broke MANY a casing in half draining after a soak or trying to get shrooms on the sides or bottoms. Push it back together and throw A LITTLE casing mix or moist verm on the seam (or in between). If you can't seen any uncolonized substrate then you should be ok, if you can then you need to put verm or casing mix over it.
--------------

I didn't notice the soil thing, but it could just be the persons way of saying casing mix, casing soil. It does kinda look like soil (coir and verm anyway). If you are actually using soil to case then see Zero's suggestions above.

Many people use the term casing soil when refering to the casing so as not to confuse people, it would have been better if whoever decided to call container growing casings decided on container growing, no biggie for the experienced grower but for the newbie it's only added confusion. I like to refer to it as casing mix as much as possible if not 50/50 (my favorite) anyway GL guys

i was hoping for a reply in the neighborhood of "i'm not using soil, i'm using.... (insert casing mixture here)".

figured i'd cover it that way, just didn't articulate myself very well.
