When harvesting mushrooms make sure you clean them, also cut the stems when drying, i recently harvested a half dozen Cubensis and found that 2 of the mushrooms were infected with gnat larvae (little white maggots with black faces that burrow up the stem and live in the shroom). Cut stems in half and even chop up cap to be paranoid, better safe than sorry and eating maggots

I find that rather hard to believe. Cubensis do not grow outdoors in Canada, unless they were properly cultivated.

Whats with the masturbating icons man...
And when your using something as an example, you should state it as just that, an example. You don't wanna stir things up by lying about harvesting a half dozen cubes in Canada.

I was making a spore print of an amanita I found the other day... I checked it the next morning and as soon as I lifted the tupperware from it there were tons of worms or maggots crawling around in the slimy decomposed cap.
it smelled pretty rancid too.

yuk did you eat the cap, i have heard from some people in the forums that worms and maggots add more protein to your diet and enduce a quicker trip set on.

to dry amanita musc, oven bake em for an hour and since there such wet caps they were still a bit damp, put a 60 watt light bulb / reflector on a black wood surface to dry em, then got more dry, and then put em in ziploc bag with cap-full of silica gel desiccant, those things are fucken hard to dry and i am oh so glad i didnt have any insects having sex with the mushrooms

No I didn't eat the cap, I was simply obtaining spores for experimenting.
I know how to dry amanitas, but thanks anyways

Yeah, the oven works fine for me, and I usually stick em' on some paper towls with a thin sheet over them exposed to a heat lamp for an hour or so to be safe.

Eh, the maggots won't hurt you if you eat them. You eat tons of little bugs and you dont even know it. There's a species of beetle(I think) that lives in bread. Slicing and dicing the mushrooms before drying them will decrease potency, it allows more of the psilocybin to oxidize, rendering it inactive.
