they finally GREW but need help

hey, I had no pinning for over a week, maybe two, then I jsut gave up, left the container, did not mist or air out for over a week, looked yesturday and I have some nice sized shrooms and manny small ones, but the thing is I dont know if its contaminated, on the sides there are back spots that fade into blue, there are two of these, but the whole spot is no more half the size of a penny, it smells fine....just smells like verm and shrooms. when I get my friends digi camera I will post a pic, but you think they are safe to eat, also, this is my first time and was just wondering, how do I pick them? just cut them at there very bottom with a knife?? oh and the bottom of the shrooms are covered in nice fluffy white mycelium, so the humidity is too high or low? ok thanks, peace

If your casing, you can cut out the bad patch with a sterile knife and just patch with verm. If the mushroom grew to maturity, then I would say it's safe to eat. The blueing could be from drying out. To pick them, just grab them at the bottom and twist. They should just pull out once they are loose. Cutting them would leave a portion of the stem that could rot and cause contamination. And the white fuzz at the bottom is normal.

Hey so i guess everything worked out pretty good! I was wondering how everthing was going when i got on today and searched for ya! hehehhe..... where do you have these spots??? and if they fade into blue that's ok... you dont need to cut your babies off (actualy you shouln't cause the stumps could contaminate everything , plus they start to rot a bit after a while) just grab them and give them a good twist/pull they should come right off.... hope you get some pics so i can see how ya did! peace
