aborts?
    #3224950 - 10/06/04 11:36 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hi folks- I'm having trouble telling if some of these are aborts. The caps are much darker brown than some of the other pins, and they grow a lot more slowly... some get fuzzy with mycelium. Check out the pic and let me know what you think!

I agree, It will be obvious in the next 24-48hrs. Saving those aborts will make for a wicked time down the road!

yo hyphae, do you pick those before they are darkened, and do you save aborts if the inside of the cap is black when cut or do you discard them.
thank you

I used to eat them as soon as I noticed them until one time when I had more aborts than respect this was in the morning before work, long story short I went home sick  tripping balls driving home I stopped four times to check for flat tires  Anyway I can spot aborts pretty quick and I save all of them unless they smell rotten.
Aborts are IME always dark blue (looks black almost) on the inside between the cap and stem

Smell them  that will tell you everything. I used to eat .5 everyday before work, built up a tolerance  so my days flowed awesome got the work done ahead of schedule and felt great at the end of the day at quitting time! Never had a problem until that one day, my guess is maybe 1-1.5gms of aborts maybe more  :crazy2: :mushroom2:

I save all my aborts (havnt had any smell bad or be bad I dont think though the caps turned very dark) and use them for my gel caps. Thats some nice aborts though...nice and clean  Damn verm is a pain in the arse with aborts..have to tear them apart to clean them.

I have a question concerning aborts...

a friend has a casing which was pinning very nicely and evenly, then almost all of the pins stopped growing. they stayed that way for a few days and are now starting to look like they are aborting.

there are other casings in the same pod as this one that are doing fine.

Same or different strain? Some strains do it more then others. Perhaps the casing with the aborts is drier or wetter then the others. Sometimes shrooms just do weird things too, you can never predict them as they will just do what they want anyways. If the problem doesnt repeat then I'd say it isn't a problem.

"a friend has a casing which was pinning very nicely and evenly, then almost all of the pins stopped growing. they stayed that way for a few days and are now starting to look like they are aborting." I'd think if it's the same strain and the whole tray is aborting then it is most likely an environmental factor of some sort (wet/dry/contam) or possibly your tray just had an abortion? :frown: An autopsy should be performed once it's DOA lifting the casing out of the tray checking moisture content and smell. GL
