Perlite and No bubbler
    #3224529 - 10/06/04 09:55 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I was just wondering if not having a bubbler under the perlite is going to affect the way the walls condensate in the PMP. I dont want to have humidity and no moisture. Should this be a concern? I started my PMP about an several hours ago and I didnt get the moisture I have been seeing in most pictures. I misted the walls and that moisture stayed. So do I have to mist every once in a while??

I would highly recommend you get a pump, tubing and 2 bubble walls (total under $50 but very much worth it) and hook it up the way the tek says. Otherwise you'll have to do lots of fanning....GL tho

I bought a pump, tubing and 2 bubble stones for about $15. Though i'm still in the incubating stage of my first grow so I haven't been able to test it out, still very cheap to set up.

The tek I read about perlite use did not mention a bubbler can you possibly post a link to this info. Also how much Hydrogen peroxide should I put in. The tek I read said a good glug glug glug?
One other question... I keep reading about dunking PF cakes and rolling them in vermiculite, what do I dunk them in, and how would you recommend doing this?

dunk-sterilize some water in microwave, cool with cover, remove top vermiculite from jar and pour sterile water in. Or you can just make a whole bunch of sterile water and put the cakes in there. Then keep them in the fridge for 12-24 hours. It's suppose to replenish moisture to cake.

roll in vermiculite after dunking.

i ended up picking up a pump, 3 meters of tubing and 1 18" air wall for $22. The pump is very good, it is filtered intake and supports up to 3 devices, pumping 50 liters per hour. Just the local pet shop

The pump is for air exchange! The perlite is humidity! Your humidity will be fine without the pump but you'll need to fan IMO, at least 3-6 times a day.

Misting is needed with or without a pump and or perilite. Humidity needs to be up but casings need to be moist as well and just having a high humidity won't moisten cakes or casings.

Thanks for all the good info. My cakes are 20% colonized and I want to work out the kinks as early on as possible. Should I worry about contams getting into my PMP through the air from air pump? I read something about using a box and coffee filters, is this necessary? I also read that you can just have the hose anywhere in the PMP and not necesarily under the substrate whats the difference?

the bubbling does add a bit of humidity to the air though.

mist the walls once or twice a day. mist cakes as needed, usually once a day in my case.

use 10 parts water, 1 part peroxide for your perlite water. use something to separate your cakes from the perlite like a sterile jar lid or sterile tin foil.

i dont like the idea of the air that is going into the pump is regular unfiltered air. that is why i bought a pump with a filter, to reduce air borne pathegons.

i have a HEPA filter in my grow room. I'm not super worried about airbourne pathogens.

a nice spray of Oust! won't hurt either.
