Are These safe to eat

I found these in a friends backyard under some trees i wanted to know if they are safe to eat
I live in cheyenne wyoming
dark brown gills
Range from 1/2 in. to 2 in. dia caps
Long thin stems

My first thought is that they look like the very common Coprinus micaceus. If so, you should be able to find some very young ones with pure white gills. Another feature you need to verify is to look very closely (with a magnifier if possible) at the cap surface to see if there are some tiny mica like (like glitter) particles. If so, then you've confirmed them as Coprinus micaceus. If not, the particles can wash off, so check young ones.

If they turn out to not be Coprinus micaceus, then they should be treated as inedible.

Coprinus micaceus is an edible mushroom, although it doesn't have much flavor. Although small, they often fruit in sufficient numbers to make that not a problem. If you intend to eat them, use only those mushrooms where the gills are still pure white. Once they change color they become vile and inedible quickly.
