Can I boil my jars?

I am about to start my first batch of shrooms and before I begin I would like to know if I can boil my jars unsted of putting them in a preasure cooker? I mean will they will be ok to grow?

depends on what substrate you are using. If you are using brown rice flour and vermiculite, you'll be okay. Follow the Tek closely, though. Don't let water splatter into the jars.

Ya man, boil away. Just remember that water boils at a lower temp than when it's pressurized, so you have to boil them longer, I'd say about 90 minutes at least. This is a less sterile way, and you may lose some jars to contams, but it is possible. Place a wash cloth on the bottom of the pot too to keep your jars from drying out and/or cracking...good luck.

With PF you can, if your using grains you need to steralize for one hour 3 days in a row.

oh, just so you know.. if you have a steamer, use that instead. no towels needed with that.

don't use crockpot. I'm pretty sure temp only goes to 190F. You want to cook with steam or water at boiling(212F).

Use a large pot if you don't have a steamer attachment for the pot.
