Is it possible to inoculate a WBS jar or anything else besides agar with a fruiting body. If so what is the procedure?

Basically instead of dropping the clone in agar, u just drop in in the jar.

Look up agar work, cloning from fruitbodys. I would throw a few pieces in or one long one to speed it up.

Cut the fruit body in half and take some from the new surface you made so that it is clean.

Take a tiny to large sized clump and drop it in the jar/container.

You can also make a mycelium syringe. with a good clump of fruitbody.

Should I wipe the mushroom with alchohol before working with?

What you want to do is select a fruit body from your grow that looks like it really got the most out of the substrate you are using.

Then you will need a couple of things to give you the best chance of success. First of all you will be needing a flow hood or glovebox to make the sterile transfer into the jar. If you dont have either of these you will just have to improvise with a cardboard box or something like that. You will also need a sterile knife of some kind, preferably a scalpel or hobby knife. The thin blade makes for easy sterilization and the razor edge works well for extracting the tissue you need.

Take your prepared jar, your clean blade, and your selected shroom donor and place them into the transfer area.(glovebox, flow hood) Very clean hands (preferably with sterile gloves, but antibacterial soap followed by a quick alcohol rub will do) are necessary.

Now you start the operation by grasping the fruit at the base and tearing it up the middle so that you have two halves of the shroom with fresh, previously unexposed, tissue that you can extract with your sterile blade(flame it until it is red and cool with an alcohol swab) I dont recomment cutting the stem up the middle because it adds one more possible point of contamination that isnt necessary.
Any of the stringy tissue from the center of the stem will work fine,or you can use the more solid spongy part of the shroom that lies just at the top of the stem. If you use the later be careful not to get any gill tissue or the outer skin of the cap as you will most likely end up with a contamed jar if you do. Now that you have tissue all you have to do is lift the lid on the jar of substrate and tap the blade so the piece of shroom falls in and replace the lid.

Ok,you're all done! Now you just wait and incubate until you see the piece begin to spread new myc into the substrate. Once it has grown a nice little patch of myc give the jar a good shake and it will colonize much faster. If you got any contams into the jar with the transplanted tissue you will know it pretty quickly.

  Hope this helps you out.

Good Luck!

I would reccomend tilting you jars first so the grains on a slant. Then open and drop the chunk at the bottom of the slant against the wall of the jar. close the lid and tilt the jar in the other direction so the grain burries the clone but you can see it against the wall.
