have you tried the disc with another computer?

if the cd does the same thing, then the disk is corrupted and your files are probably dead. if it works, then your computer itself is having issues - you can further troubleshoot it from there to see what the problem is.

Make sure the disk is clean... I have seen small hairs or dirt cause some files to fail loading. Remember, clean from the center to the edge, not around in a circle.

the thing is some files work and some dont. i was wondering if i could do a raw copy of the cd using some software i dont have. the disk is clean. and i switched disk drives. but it looks as though you are right and my files are corrupted i will have to start over. im lucky though i got a verrrry important file off of there that i have been working on for at least 3 years. but my new work i started is gone . GAY. thanks guys.

Your best bet would be to copy the files off and burn a new cd. The problem with the raw copy is that if your computer is reading errors on the cd, then it will write those errors to the new copy.

Let me give you some bad news. It happens when the disc is misburned. Normally the program picks up errors such as buffer underrun or tracking error. You CD writer tells the computer that, but can be ignored by the software.

But new versions of programs are coming up with ways to bypass this feature, i.e. bufer underrun protection. Depends on what program you used, this is the likely senario.

Now, with that said, there might be hope. Some programs like nero have a very extensive configuration. Go under the options and uncheck the error reporting and check ignore bad sectors. Depending on your program it'll be slightly differently worded, but same idea. Then use the program to make an image file. Use the image file to burn a new disc or use archiving program such as WinISO or UltraISO to take it apart. You are likely to lose some files, but should be able to recover some. Good luck.

Sam
