Tool's Lateralus * 1
    #322081 - 05/20/01 10:43 PM (22 years, 14 days ago)

This album is better than I had hoped. It's like a continuation of Aenima... but better. The album artwork and layout is the best EVER. No band photos, VERY little record company bullshit. This album diplays Tool's dedication to music and artisitic integrity.

i agree the artwork and layout is the coolest i've ever seen

the album is great, i'm still getting into it. you can definately hear a perfect circle in there, but in a good way.

Tool are signed to a pretty small record company, hence the lack of bullshit promotion. Tool are pretty much free to do what they like, which is how it should be.
Major record companies today are evil, they actually usually make more profit than the band members, for you average, low profile signed band.

I thought aenema was probably the best album I had ever heard so I couldnt wait for lateralus but i think it was a massive disappointment it sounds just like average rock music there is no freaky bits like that part in third eye were it goes"shrouding all the ground around me"ect i think that was brilliant i definately dont see lateralus as a positive progression plus the lyrics are to similar to apc all that shit about relationships and stuff. When I first read the track list with songs called the patient, the grudge and ticks and leechs i thought that cant be for real but it was.

i dont think the new album is better than aenima but i think it is as good..and i think it would be a little close minded to say that it is an average album..its way beyond average..its mind blowing to me as a musician..the lyrics sound a little like apc??you dumb fuck its the same singer..how about maybe apc sounds like tool."fuck you buddy" and how could you like an album for one part of one song??get real you fuck..if you had took the time to read the lyrics in aenima youd of known that a lot of his lyrics were based upon relationships then as well and in undertow and so on..tool is just the more aggressive masculine side and apc is the positive feminine side..i think your opinions suck..

anyone see the new video? its awesome

Yeah... Its the same guy writing the lyrics for both bands, so the lyrics are going to be about the position hes in right now. If you look at opiate, Maynard is pretty pissed (although they did wanna put their heavier songs on the ep). But theres a progression. You can tell between Undertow and Aenima he's been reading more philosophy. He's also pretty pissed off at a couple things on that album too. Lateralus seems to be talking about how he's worked thru problems. Even in concerts he's changed the words to Jerk-Off because he thought he was endorsing gun violence. An artist is going to mature with age. Would you rather have the same thing repeated over and over again... or style never change just to sell records (Backstreet Boys/Britney Spears?)

Ah well... I'll keep buying their records.

Actually, I do have a Tool poster up in my room. It only has about half of Maynard's face though. It has the fucked up pictures of 'em from inside the Undertow liner notes. Paul and Danny are on it as well. If I were gay and wanted to take anyone's cock anywhere, it wouldn't be Maynard. I'd probably go with Justin. He has the rugged short haired rocker sort of look. Plus in the Salival liner notes he's wearing the same earing I have in now. I think we were meant to be together, no?

The new album is good. Not as good as AEnima but still very good. The lyrics seems a bit stupid at first but if you read them they are much deeper. Track 11 and the patient are so beautiful. And APC's lyrics are much deeper then just relationships. Brena ( to his fiancee) is the only true love song. APC is so much better that the new Tool though. A Perfect Circle is my favorite band. The way Maynard sings in Lateralus has hints of APC. More painful and detached then the old, aggresive Tool. They feel older now. Anyone who is disrespectful of APC's creativity shoud burn. They are blind.

yes maybe a hint of APC but not really..if you take tools first three albums..opiate undertow aenima and listen to all of them you can tell that they slowed up a bit towards aenima anyway..listen to the song H or pushit.i think aenima is where his singing abilities really took off.and when apc came about he put his voice to the test..i dont think of apc being better than tool or tool being better than APC.i think that they are 2 totally different things that dont need to be compared..

*I* think it's an awesome CD the artwork's badass, the music flows it's an all-around kickass CD, I was afraid before it came out that it was gonna be some APC crap, I hated Mer De Noms, It was WAAAAAAAY to weak for me.

i didn't enjoy the new cd very much the first time i heard it, but its getting better and better with every listen. its just as good as aenima or better. i'm glad they aren't trying to imitate themselves. if you wanna hear the same thing over and over, go listen to some punk trash like green day.

I think tool are on the way out I think they peaked with aenima and now they arent a cutting edge band anymore but are still better than apc which is like competition for matchbox 20 or something.

p.s all fan club members please dont get nasty
