Rituals: Necessary?

It seems to me that a major problem of this world is when a person stops thinking. Rituals seem to promote non-thinking. So, are they necessary?
Most will say that rituals are necessary to achieve some sort of transcendental state. To me, they just give people the ability to LOOK like they are doing something. How are we supposed to know if they aren't just going through the motions?
The ceremony begins, the facade goes up, subject enters drone mode. The performance is flawless yet hollow. The subject claims to "feel better". All is well until the buzz wears off and the subject becomes irate and hostile. The warm bubble that enveloped the whole now gives way to a separate, cold bubble. Subject turns every day into a ritual of meaningless drone work. Nothing is learned and nothing is really accomplished. The only cure is to give in once again to the ritual. Thus starting the seven-day cycle over again.
no beginning....no end

The names of the days may repeat, but are never the same. The people who get lost in the ritual tend to be lost in life. A lot of us here seem to be past the ritual. I hardly bother with knowing what day it is. why does it matter?
Nothing of what I say is a personal matter. All cultivation questions are on behalf of counterparts who risk growing. I take no responsibility in being the messenger.

i wonder if a ritual is a means to an end, rather than the goal of ones activities.
ritual could be a key that opens the mind to a desired state of conciousness, the dialling of the number to make the call, not the call itself.
i like rituals

rituals are good if they are used as a means to reaching enlightenment if they are hollow they will lead you off the path
so its important to understand the purpose of the ritual
man has the need to understand deep in him but lives in a world that cannot be understood
no hope no despair

Do you know the meaning of "Universal Man" ?
Renaiscence created this words, Man as an inteligent being trying to gather all possible knowlodge. Well just to let you know that i've had my share, born catholic, raised anti-catholic, enlightned by cristian racionalism and experienced wickams way, now i'm all of it and none of it at same time. It all serves for you to gather experience and move on, better yet, create your own ritual, meditation and psicanalisis is one of them. Anyway, i feel a lot respect for ancient magic and i've learned some rituals, it's just.... the people who practice them are too much blinded by the ritual itself, do they work ? Some do, some do....
Get up in the morning open your bedroom window, open your arms like a flower opening to the world, breed deeply and praise God, Apollo, nature, yourself or whatever, that's a nice ritual to begin the day.

I do agree that we seem to trap ourselves into a never ending cycle. Break the cycle and subject your self to other people who are trapped in the ritual.. Our goal in life is to learn and discover and live, I guess everyone needs to realize that and if it is not happening choose either to make it happen or else give up complaining about it
