colonization question
    #3217847 - 10/05/04 01:09 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi all, im new here and this is my first grow. I've had trouble thinking of a good way to keep the pf tek style jars at around 86 degrees. Can anyone see a reason that covering them in tinfoil and having them under my heated water bed mattress set at 86 degrees wouldnt work? I will take them out from under there and back into a plastic container that can be kept at around 80 degrees easily when they are almost done colonizing to allow for gas exchange and 100 percent colonization or hopefully close to that.

That could very well work. You don't want direct heat on it (if its like a heating pad type thing) so wrap them in a towel first. Should have plenty of gas exchange too when you take a peak at them. Doesn't really need much air..just them holes in the top are pretty much enough. 80 degrees is actually just about perfct though as mycelium will generate some heat and warm the substrate themselves. I like 83 degrees myself.
