Unexciting Mushroom. But still a mushroom
    #3216825 - 10/05/04 02:24 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Hey i was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of mushroom this is off the top of their head. I always find it growing off dead tree branches (usually only 1" thick) amongst leaves after rainfall on the coast of NSW Aus.
I know it's not psychoactive but it seems to want to be found everywhere and i'd like to put a name to it. They are about 1.5 - 3 inches tall and have a cap 1 - 2 inch wide. The cap does the opposite of Convex (forget the term). The gills look like little spongy ovals. It has no smell, doesn't bruise and feels quite spongy. Any ideas?

I'll upload more pics when i can.

Hey,

I'm only new to mycology and I can't help you at all in an ID. But I must say, It's quite interesting, I havent seen a mushroom before with those kind of gills. Also the opposite of convex is concave.

Good Luck.

Concave! That's the word! Thanx arbalest. They have a heavy concave (about 6mm for small mushy, 10mm for large). Yeah the gills trip me out aswell. Oh i forgot to mentions that the margin (under 1mm) is darker, almsot black. Can anyone tell me how to upload more then 400kb every 24h? Cheers !

Thanx for an indication Loki it got me started on my search! From looking at pics of Suillus aeruginascens the cap seems different. It seems to convex instead of concave. ALTHOUGH the strange spores seem almost identical!

Looks like Polyporus decurrens to me. Edibility unknown, but I sure wouldn't want to try them.
